Suicide attempts may link depressive symptoms in older Korean adults

In a community-based study of 2,007 older Korean adults, suicide attempts showed relatively high scores for connecting different depressive symptoms and for being explained by neighboring symptoms. The finding was not consistent across all measures, and women’s symptom networks appeared denser around suicide-related symptoms.

AI brain scans may help identify autism, but test results vary widely

A systematic review of 86 studies found that artificial intelligence systems using brain MRI can distinguish people with autism from comparison groups in research settings. But reported accuracy varies substantially with the data and testing design, and the evidence is not yet strong enough for routine clinical use.

A brain-cell map shows how disease-linked genes are regulated

Researchers created a high-resolution map of genetic regulation in the human prefrontal cortex using 5.6 million nuclei from 1,384 donors. The atlas revealed cell-specific regulation of genes linked to brain disorders that bulk-tissue studies had not detected.

Brain wiring helps link fast and slow rhythms in a whole-brain model

A whole-brain model of 90 anatomically connected regions produced a wider range of activity patterns when each region included interacting excitatory and inhibitory cell populations. The researchers also found that the brain’s modeled wiring helped produce fast gamma rhythms whose amplitude changed with slower rhythms.
