Abstract

An analysis of literature data on modern approaches to the treatment of infection caused by M. Genitalium is presented. As for now, it is not included in the list of reportable infections both in most countries of the world and in the Russian Federation, but, according to various data, it has a fairly high prevalence. The article presents data on the prevalence of this infection in countries around the world, on the antibiotic resistance of M. Genitalium, the rates of which vary and reach 90% in some regions, and recommendations for the treatment of uncomplicated forms, set out in the IUSTI (International Union against Sexually Transmitted Infections), the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines, and the 2024 Russian clinical guidelines. The list of new antimicrobial drugs that are already in use or can be used to treat infections caused by M. genitalium depends on antibiotic resistance rates, which in a number of countries, including Russia, already serve as the basis for the creation of regulatory documents and the development of clinical guidelines. An analysis of the main causes for treatment failure is presented. Among them for M. genitalium infection, antibiotic resistance of the pathogen to antimicrobial drugs is noted, which is reflected in Russian and foreign scientific papers.
