In a community-based study of 2,007 older Korean adults, suicide attempts showed relatively high scores for connecting different depressive symptoms and for being explained by neighboring symptoms. The finding was not consistent across all measures, and women’s symptom networks appeared denser around suicide-related symptoms.
A review of 84 studies involving 177,074 Brazilian children and adolescents found that many did not meet recommended sleep durations. About 45% of preschoolers, 65% of school-age children and 47% of adolescents had adequate sleep, although results varied greatly depending on how sleep was measured and which guidelines were used.
Women with higher exposure to phthalates and bisphenol A had different estrogen and progesterone levels in a cross-sectional study. The findings show an association, but cannot establish that the chemicals caused the hormone changes.
Researchers have introduced ABCDscores, an open-source R package for calculating most non-proprietary summary scores in the ABCD Study’s tabulated data. The tool is designed to make scoring more transparent, reproducible and customizable, although the abstract does not provide independent measurements of its accuracy or time savings.
In a longitudinal analysis of 14,389 adults from three countries, researchers found that average cognitive test scores showed a detectable decline beginning in the 31–40 age group. Non-memory abilities changed earlier than memory scores, but the observational study does not show that age caused these changes or predict what will happen to any one person.
