Review suggests AI can help spot fractures on X-rays and CT scans

This systematic review and meta-analysis examined AI tools for detecting fractures in images from living human participants. Across selected studies, AI showed relatively high pooled accuracy on both radiographs and CT scans, but the estimates were based on small subsets of studies and had low certainty. The findings support further evaluation of AI as an assistive tool, not conclusions about all AI systems or clinical settings.

Results differed: OpenAI o1 scored higher for accuracy, while the DeepSeek R1 Chinese version scored higher for practical, step-by-step guidance.
