A systematic synthesis of individual and strategic drivers of organizational citizenship behavior for the environment
Abstract
As the need for sustainability is evolving, organizations want to embrace sustainable behavior within their organization to improve their sustainable performance. The objective of this research is to synthesize the current body of knowledge pertaining to Organizational Citizenship Behavior towards Environment (OCBE), and propose a theoretically grounded model for enhancing environmental performance (sustainability) through OCBE using thematic analysis. Data from 221 papers were obtained using the PRISMA approach, systematically reviewed and analyzed. After a systematic review of 221 papers, thematic analysis of the collected data was performed using NVivo, which resulted in eleven themes. The resultant themes were categorized into two major initiatives that stimulate OCBE in an organization. This study explores the individual and strategic level initiatives that will help embrace OCBE and will enable environmental sustainability. The study examines existing literature and proposes a model that will benefit the organization by managing its workforce effectively and enhancing environmental performance. The study discusses the future research agenda.
