The impact of climate factors on the risk of mosquito-borne infectious diseases

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Climate change and its associated environmental transformations are increasingly recognized as critical drivers of vector-borne disease transmission dynamics. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of how climatic factors – particularly temperature, precipitation, humidity, and extreme weather events – influence the population dynamics, geographical distribution, and vectorial capacity of mosquito species responsible for transmitting infectious diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, chikungunya, and West Nile virus. Furthermore, the role of altered precipitation patterns in creating or eliminating breeding habitats, as well as the impact of humidity on mosquito survival and dispersal, is systematically evaluated.
