Data Security and Data Governance: From Siloed Implementation to Integrated Assurance

Abstract

Abstract The current approach to managing medical data separates security and governance into two distinct domains. This commentary argues that data security is a prerequisite for unlocking the value of data, and that data governance can enhance data quality and increase its value. These two aspects should be interdependent and mutually reinforcing.
