Seroprevalence of cytomegalovirus IgG and IgM antibodies and associated factors among women with spontaneous abortion in Lahj Governorate, Yemen
Abstract
Abstract Objectives This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of anti-CMV IgG and anti-CMV IgM antibodies among women with spontaneous abortion in Lahj Governorate, Yemen. An analytical cross-sectional study was among 110 women with spontaneous abortion. Five milliliters of blood were collected from women, sera were separated, and anti-CMV IgG and IgM were determined using a Cobas ® e 411 analyzer that is based on electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA). The data were entered and then analyzed using SPSS. Associations were assessed using the chi-square test, and prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Results The seroprevalence of anti-CMV IgG and IgM antibodies was 80.9% and 7.3%, respectively. A statistically significant association was observed between anti-CMV IgM seropositivity and having experienced two previous spontaneous abortions (PR = 5.0, 95% CI: 1.13–21.97; p = 0.042). A high seroprevalence of CMV IgG antibodies and low IgM seropositivity among women with spontaneous abortion in Lahj, Yemen.
