Meta-regulator No.8. Neuro-vegetative system of tone and reactivity regulation

Open access0 citations

Abstract

The neuro-autonomic meta-regulator is an integrative system that maintains a dynamic balance between the sympathetic (adrenergic) and parasympathetic (cholinergic) regions of the autonomic nervous system, determining the speed of response to external and internal stimuli, as well as the ability to recover from stress. It is based on the structures of the central (hypothalamus, brainstem) and peripheral (sympathetic ganglia, vagus nerve, intestinal plexuses) nervous system, neurotransmitters (norepinephrine, acetylcholine, dopamine, serotonin), heart rate variability (HRV) as an integral indicator of tone, cholinergic anti-inflammatory reflex. The components of the regulator, the mechanisms of fast and slow regulation, quantitative parameters (HRV, heart rate, catecholamine level, vagus nerve tone) are described. The effect on twenty meta-environments of the body has been shown. Pathological conditions with imbalance (chronic stress, sympathicotonia, vagotonia, neurovegetative dystonia) and methods of correction by natural means (breathing practices, phytotherapy, physical activity, adaptogens, magnesium, melatonin, vagal stimulation) are considered.
