MediEco: A Comprehensive AI-Driven Framework for Digital Healthcare Transformation in Bangladesh

Open access0 citations

Abstract

The healthcare infrastructure in Bangladesh remains heavily reliant on fragmented, paper-based documentation, leading to significant inefficiencies and clinical risks. This research introduces The MediEco, a comprehensive, AI-driven digital healthcare framework developed to centralize longitudinal health records and enhance patient safety. Empirical data collected from a survey of 500 participants across 15 districts reveals that 60.0% of the population still manages health data using physical folders, resulting in a 64.0% record loss rate. Furthermore, 58.6% of respondents reported safety concerns due to misread handwritten prescriptions. To address these challenges, the MediEco ecosystem integrates a Unified Smart Health ID and an AI-based validation module utilizing Tesseract OCR and rule-based NLP for prescription digitization and error detection. The system is implemented using a scalable stack comprising Node.js, React.js, and MongoDB. Results indicate a high level of public readiness, with 82.8% of participants finding the unified ID highly convenient and 83.8% prioritizing instant digital access during medical emergencies. This paper demonstrates that the MediEco framework not only mitigates the risks of data loss but also provides a resilient, inclusive pathway for digital healthcare transformation in resource-constrained environments.
