Review finds higher blood pressure targets may lower delirium after surgery

Researchers reviewed 18 randomized trials involving 16,573 adults undergoing noncardiac surgery. Compared with standard blood pressure management, higher or individualized blood pressure targets were associated with lower risks of postoperative delirium and surgical-site infection, but showed no clear differences in several other outcomes.

Review finds muscle loss is common in children in intensive care

A systematic review and meta-analysis examined ultrasound measurements of thigh muscle in 536 children admitted to pediatric intensive care units. Across the included observational studies, muscle thickness generally fell during the stay, and about 49% had a reduction greater than 10%.
