Researchers report an Indonesian autism screening tool performed well in a specialist clinic

Researchers adapted the Autism Mental Status Exam into Indonesian and evaluated it as a pre-diagnostic tool among 174 children referred to a developmental specialist clinic. In this cross-sectional study, the tool showed strong reliability and diagnostic performance when compared with clinical assessment, but the findings do not establish how well it works in general community settings or as a replacement for comprehensive evaluation.

Review explains how clinicians identify children with feeding disorders

This continuing-education review describes pediatric feeding disorders in children, especially those under age 5, and explains how primary-care clinicians can recognize and assess them. It summarizes a four-part framework covering medical, nutritional, feeding-skill, and psychosocial factors, along with screening tools and referral guidance. The article is a review of existing guidance, not a new study measuring outcomes in a newly enrolled group of children.

It reports that research has linked autism or high autistic traits with greater escalation to intensive care and less positive experiences of therapy, but the review does not show that therapy adaptations cause better outcomes.
