Review finds uncertain link between artificial sweeteners and bladder cancer

Researchers combined results from 17 observational studies involving 22,438 people to examine artificial sweetener use and bladder cancer risk. The analysis found a borderline overall association, but the studies differed substantially and showed signs of possible publication bias. This research shows an association, not proof that artificial sweeteners cause bladder cancer.

Trial found non-nutritive sweetened drinks were similar to water for weight over 2 years

In this human trial, 493 adults with overweight compared non-nutritive sweetened (NNS) beverages with water for weight change over 1 year of assisted weight management plus 1 year of unassisted monitoring. Over 104 weeks, the weight loss seen with NNS beverages (4.8 kg) was not significantly different from water (3.7 kg). The study suggests both approaches had similar weight results when paired with a weight-management program.
