Abstract

With the increasing span of cable-stayed bridges, the cables are becoming considerably longer, exacerbating their vibration-related challenges. The introduction of cross-ties for vibration control has been extensively applied in bridge construction, and the dynamic characteristics of corresponding structures have also drawn extensive attentions. However, in most previous researches on cable networks, the impact of bridge tower and deck vibrations on cables has been neglected. Therefore, taking into account the coupled vibrations between cables and the tower, as well as the beam, we establish a multi-cross-tie cable-tower-beam model and its free vibration problem are analyzed using the transfer matrix method (TMM). Then, two numerical cases are examined to validate the reliability of the TMM by comparing their calculated frequencies and mode shapes with the corresponding FEM solutions. Finally, the influences of several tower-related parameters on frequencies are investigated, and some conclusions are given.
