Hydrometra in a mixed‐breed domestic cat in Indonesia
Abstract
Abstract Hydrometra is a condition in which the uterus is filled with non‐infected fluid. A 2‐year‐old, female, mixed‐breed cat was presented to the Urban Animal Pet Care Clinic for ovariohysterectomy. On physical examination, the cat weighed 3.4 kg and had a rectal temperature of 38.8°C. Abdominal palpation suggested pregnancy, which the owner considered unlikely because the cat had never left its enclosure. Ultrasonography was offered but declined because of financial constraints. Haematological analysis revealed no abnormalities. Ovariohysterectomy was performed, and the uterus was found to contain fluid. The prognosis was favourable. The cat was monitored for 7 days after surgery and was considered recovered on Day 7. This case describes hydrometra in a mixed‐breed domestic cat in Indonesia and highlights the importance of considering hydrometra as a differential diagnosis in cats with suspected pseudopregnancy or abdominal enlargement.
