Abstract
This critical literature review titled "Beyond the Machine: A Critical Literature Review of Technology, Regulation, and Electoral Malpractice in Nigeria and Comparative Emerging Democracies" examines the role of technology in electoral processes. It analyzes electoral malpractice, regulatory gaps, and compares Nigeria's 2023 BVAS/IReV experience with Indonesia, Brazil, Kenya, and the Philippines. The review uses Principal-Agent theory to explore how technology interacts with electoral integrity in emerging democracies.
