Hyperedge overlap regulates stochastic resonance in higher-order networks
Abstract
Previous studies have shown that higher-order interactions can enhance stochastic resonance, but the role of their microscopic organization remains unclear. We investigate stochastic resonance in a bistable oscillator network with higher-order interactions by varying the overlap of 2-hyperedges. We find that reducing the 2-hyperedge overlap significantly enhances stochastic resonance. This enhancement occurs because lower overlap distributes higher-order interactions more broadly across the network, thereby promoting more coherent interwell transitions. We further find that the enhancement induced by low-overlap structures remains robust to variations in network size and the nonlinear form of higher-order coupling. These results show that the organization of higher-order interactions is an important topological factor in stochastic resonance.
