A Multi‐Software Approach to Assessing Photovoltaics Integration in Modern Enovoltaic Systems

Open access0 citations

Abstract

ABSTRACT Land competition has intensified over the past two decades due to population growth, urbanization, and the push for renewable energy. The growing tension among food, energy, and land demands calls for integrated solutions. One of such approaches is agriphotovoltaics, which has gained traction in recent years due to its potential to balance energy generation with agricultural productivity, contributing positively to the food‐energy‐water nexus. This study assesses a vineyard project (the so called enovoltaic systems) design in Puglia, Italy, using double‐sided PV panels on elevated tracking structures alternating with vine rows. An integrated multi‐software procedure is proposed to optimize panel placement by analyzing the land equivalent ratio, balancing energy production with grape yield. The results confirm the effectiveness of the enovoltaic system in ensuring a symbiotic production of food and green electricity on the same land.
