Preparation of low-density polyethylene-based magnetic N/S carbon material for Cr(VI) removal
Abstract
Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is used to prepare the recyclable magnetic LDPE -based N/S-carbon material (WPC-NS) for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater. The Cr(VI) removal process under different removal conditions is deeply analyzed. The saturation magnetization of WPC-NS reaches 35 emu/g, indicating a moderate magnetic recyclability. The fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization analyses indicate that the WPC-NS contains nitrogen and sulfur surface functional groups, which are beneficial for Cr(VI) removal. The Cr(VI) removal amount calculated by Langmuir model at 298 K is 312.29 mg g -1 . The coexisting ions in the solution have a relatively small impact on Cr(VI) removal. The removal mechanism analysis indicates that the nitrogen/sulfur functional groups, and pores of WPC-NS achieve the synergistic removal of Cr(VI).
