SeismicFlow: The First Production-Grade Python-Native GUI Platform for Integrated Geoscience Workflows

Abstract

Abstract SeismicFlow is the first Python-native geoscience platform to provide production-grade infrastructure for subsurface analysis through a modern graphical user interface. While the scientific community has adopted Python as the language of algorithmic innovation, industry-standard platforms remain restricted to closed, compiled-language architectures (C++/C#) designed decades ago, delaying the deployment of state-of-the-art methods in industrial workflows. SeismicFlow addresses this gap with a platform built entirely on the Python scientific ecosystem — integrating NumPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, VTK, and scikit-learn — enabling direct application of published methods to industry-scale seismic and well data without the reimplementation friction of compiled systems. Its efficacy is demonstrated through systematic integration of deep learning and machine learning workflows spanning fault and zone segmentation, denoising, and petrophysical regression, classification, and clustering. Quantitative validation on real-world 3D seismic volumes and production well logs — yielding R2, RMSE, and F1-scores consistent with the original studies — confirms that Python-native infrastructure can operationalize complex algorithms at industrial scale. By replacing proprietary black-box modules with a transparent, extensible environment, SeismicFlow establishes Python-native architecture as a viable foundation for production geoscience software.
