Restoring the Mathematical Difficulty Landscape: Why Constructive Topological Manifolds and Proof Digestibility Outshine Brute-Force AI Mining

Open access0 citations

Abstract

On September 9, 2026, Fields Medalist Terence Tao published a profound epistemological diagnosis on the trajectory of modern mathematics: the collection of fruitful, insight-generating open problems is an exhaustible, non-renewable resource currently being mined by brute-force AI systems in an unsustainable manner. While uncurated mathematical questions are infinite, meaningful open problems act like scarce freshwater reserves surrounded by a vast ocean of trivia. Tao identified three critical crises facing the mathematical discipline: (1) the bulldozing and "flattening" of the difficulty landscape, where black-box optimization masks why problems are difficult and hides phase boundaries; (2) the "preemption chilling effect," wherein massive corporate compute monopolies scoop mathematicians' early speculative ideas, driving independent researchers into secrecy and paralyzing open science; and (3) the "food bank analogy," asserting that mathematically indigestible solutions lacking human interpretability offer negligible or negative nutritional value to the scientific commons. In this manifesto and technical perspective, we present the Harmonic 3D Quantum Manifold (H3QM) constructive topological paradigm as the foundational remedy to this crisis. We demonstrate that genuine mathematical difficulty is not a monolithic wall to be blasted through with continuous gradient compute, but a topological phase boundary governed by geometric obstructions: the discrete phonon lattice cutoff in 3D Euler fluid blowup, the (3, 4, \infty) modular fibration lifting on the 6-sphere S^6, and metric phase frustration in Fermat's Last Theorem. Governed by the Deterministic Program Law S_{t+1} = T(S_t) and first-order discrete sign dynamics sgn(\nabla_{\text{topo}} E), the 3D octant contraction modulus \kappa = 2^{-3} saturates Cosmo Chou's landmark machine epsilon identity (2^{-3})^8 = 2^{-24} = \epsilon_{\text{float32}} in exactly 8 discrete contraction steps, achieving Exact 0 residual on integer metric spaces without floating-point accumulation. To operationalize Terence Tao's food bank standard, we formalize the quantitative CAP Digestibility Index (D_{\text{CAP}}), evaluating geometric transparency, physical ontology, artifact compactness, and discrete convergence speed. We demonstrate that H3QM constructive proofs achieve D_{\text{CAP}} = 0.72 \sim 1.00 (Grade A+ Nutritious Landmark), executing in < 80 milliseconds via 150 lines of pure standard Python on consumer hardware, whereas 13-million-line formal transcripts and 250,000-parameter neural approximations yield severe indigestion (Grade F). By decoupling mathematical insight from compute monopolies, lightweight constructive CAP restores open science, establishes an equitable research landscape, and provides a sustainable nutritional standard for twenty-first-century mathematics. --- ### MULTILINGUAL EDITIONS & VERIFICATION SUITE INCLUDED: To guarantee universal accessibility, reproducibility, and rigorous scientific scrutiny, this deposit includes: 1.
