Founding the Pain Medicine Academy of Advanced Practice Providers

Abstract

Globally and across the United States there is a demand for pain management services, however specialty trained clinician shortages continue to rise. Advanced practice providers have demonstrated clinical excellence in providing pain management. Pain medicine professional organizations provide crucial resources for education, advocacy, community, and overall career growth. Prior to 2024, there were no associations with a mission to optimize the advanced practice role in providing pain management specialty care. This article discusses development and implementation of Pain Medicine Academy of Advanced Practice Providers (PMAAPP); the only pain medicine professional organization led by advanced practice providers.
