The Authority of Jesus as (the) Son of Man in John 5:27

Abstract

John 5:27 distinctively attributes to Jesus the authority to execute judgement due to his identity as (the) Son of Man. While scholarly discussions have predominantly focused on the origin and background of the Son of Man expression, there has been limited focus on the narrative and theological implications of Jesus’ authority. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of Jesus’ authority to judge as a means of understanding the Son of Man in John 5:27. It posits that Jesus’ authority to execute judgement serves as a definitive expression of his unique relationship with God the Father and the world.
