Preserving Marginalised Identity through the Long Kesh Style Collection

Abstract

Long Kesh/The Maze Prison (LK/M) is considered one of the most dominant symbols of the conflict between prisoners and government authorities during “The Troubles.” Holly Lennon has assembled hundreds of items, belonging to republican prisoners during the 1976-1981 prison protests that took place in LK/M and is in the process of adding them to the Digital Repository of Ireland. In this lightning talk, Holly discusses the importance of digitally preserving these materials and outlines their value in helping understand a history often omitted from traditional archives.
