HBC — Human Behavior Cycle: PDS → SDP → ERS: A 3-Stage Safety-First Model for Human Adaptation Under Enclosure (Perspective)
Abstract
Traditional psychology treats symptoms as defects in the individual. The Human Behavior Cycle (HBC) proposes: Perceived Deficiency Signal (PDS) → Survival-Driven Pattern (SDP) → Externalized Response to Survival (ERS). PDS is a learned early alert that Belong and Gather are unpredictable, not objective truth about self. SDP is the behavioral strategy to make the enclosed stage feel predictable (people-pleasing, hardening, control, withdrawal, perfectionism). ERS is the visible outcome labeled as symptom (anxiety, anger, shutdown, addictive behaviors). HBC is the individual nervous system expression of ESC/HSC (Live → Belong → Gather → See). When Stage 2/3 are enclosed even under abundance, Stage 4 (See) goes offline. Companion to ESC/HSC framework. Part of 6-paper ecosystem: ESC/HSC, HEDI/HEDS, LESS/LESI, NBSLP, NOHEDD, Veritodynamics. No new empirical data. Theoretical framework.
