Generative Continuum Ontology: Generative Existence and Organized Reality

Abstract

This paper develops Generative Continuum Ontology (GCO), an ontological framework that provides a unified perspective for understanding emergence, laws of nature, organized complexity, and the conditions of physical reality. The framework begins from the proposition that existence is ontologically fundamental and characterized by an intrinsic generative capacity (Φ). Rather than treating substances, objects, structures, processes, or relations as the fundamental constituents of reality, the present framework interprets them as organizational forms that become identifiable within organizational regimes grounded in the intrinsic generative capacity of existence. Φ denotes the intrinsic generative capacity of existence. Organizational expressions are understood as manifestations of this generative capacity rather than as independently existing entities or additional ontological layers. Organizational regimes are coherent organizational disclosures of these manifestations. Within these regimes, relations, objects, structures, processes, laws, and forms of spatial and temporal organization become identifiable as organizational forms. Persistence and change are therefore interpreted as complementary aspects of generative existence rather than as opposing ontological categories. Organized reality is progressively disclosed through organizational regimes. A minimal formal schema is introduced to clarify the relationships among existence, intrinsic generative capacity, organizational expressions, organizational regimes, organizational forms, emergence, stabilization, reorganization, and law formation. The resulting ontological architecture offers an explanatory framework through which emergence across physical, biological, cognitive, and social organizational domains may be interpreted with greater ontological coherence and explanatory economy.
