The Textile Plaiters of Puzriš-Dagān: A First Approach

Abstract

Abstract This article presents the publication of 20 administrative texts from the Third Dynasty of Ur (2112–2004 BCE) currently preserved in the Iraq Museum, Baghdad. The texts are part of an archive that collects receipts from the plaiters of Puzriš-Dagān. The edition is accompanied by an extensive study of 105 additional texts from the same archive. They document the weighing of various types of cords, ropes, and dog collars, implements for chariots, bed bases, felt, and other products made by textile plaiters. The article includes a study of these objects produced by the plaiters, the raw materials used by the craftsmen, and the final destination of the finished products.
