A proposed approach for involving general practice in integrated oncological decision-making for frail patients
Abstract
As populations age, the number of older adults (≥70 years) diagnosed with cancer is increasing, now accounting for the majority of new cancer diagnoses and experiencing the highest treatment burden. Treatment decision-making in this population is often complex, as multimorbidity, polypharmacy, and frailty increase the risk of adverse outcomes such as functional decline, and institutionalization. Moreover, older adults remain underrepresented in clinical trials, resulting in uncertainty about the balance between benefits and harms of cancer treatment.
