Research on creep life prediction of entangled metallic wire material based on performance degradation parameters and time–temperature superposition principle

Open access0 citations

Abstract

The entangled metallic wire material (EMWM) exhibits the significant advantages, including high damping performance, resistance to aging, and strong environmental adaptability, making it widely applicable across various fields. As application fields of EMWM have been expanded, examining the service life of EMWM in various working conditions has become increasingly critical. In this study, symmetrical solid cylinder EMWMs composed of 304 stainless steel wires were examined through static compression creep tests at temperatures of 100, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 550 °C. The height variation amplitude h , average stiffness variation amplitude k , energy dissipation variation amplitude e and loss factor variation amplitude l were selected as the performance degradation parameters. Based on these performance degradation parameters and the time–temperature superposition principle, 100 °C and 300 °C were selected as reference temperatures, and time-shift factors α T were introduced to correlate the performance curves of EMWM specimens at different temperatures. Subsequently, a prediction model and fitting formulas for EMWM creep life were initially proposed. To validate the proposed prediction model, EMWM specimens with varied processing parameters were subjected to the static compression creep tests at different temperatures. The results indicate that the theoretical model reliably predicts the creep life of EMWMs, offering a theoretical basis for predicting creep life of EMWM under static compression at elevated temperatures.
