Abstract

Abstract The Intelligent Enterprise Review is an executive journal dedicated to advancing the theory and practice of AI governance, strategic leadership, enterprise transformation, and institutional resilience. This inaugural issue introduces the Institutional Durability Doctrine, a governance-centered framework that argues the ultimate measure of executive leadership is not solely the performance achieved during a leader's tenure, but the institutional capability, governance architecture, and decision systems that remain after that leader's departure. As artificial intelligence accelerates the pace, complexity, and scale of organizational decision-making, enterprises face an increasingly urgent challenge: ensuring that governance evolves as rapidly as technological capability. This issue contends that sustainable competitive advantage is created not by technology alone, but by the strength of the institutions responsible for governing it. Technology amplifies existing governance; it does not create governance where none exists. The publication introduces the Institutional Durability Framework™, a practical governance model organized around six interdependent capabilities: Purpose & Legitimacy, Governance Architecture, Decision Sovereignty, Operational Resilience, Capability & Culture, and Performance & Accountability. Together, these capabilities provide executives and boards with a structured approach to strengthening institutional resilience, preserving decision integrity, and governing artificial intelligence responsibly across leadership transitions and periods of technological disruption. In addition to presenting the foundational doctrine, this issue includes executive frameworks, governance architecture models, boardroom questions, institutional maturity assessments, diagnostic scorecards, executive tools, and practical guidance designed to support immediate application in corporate, government, and mission-driven organizations. Rather than treating AI governance as a compliance exercise or technology initiative, this publication positions governance as a strategic enterprise capability that enables innovation while preserving institutional trust, accountability, and long-term organizational performance.
