Review suggests staged surgery may lower some risks for congenital moles

Researchers pooled results from seven human studies comparing multiple-staged with single-stage removal and reconstruction of congenital melanocytic nevi, sometimes called congenital moles. Staged surgery was associated with fewer major wound complications and recurrences, as well as slightly shorter and narrower scars, but the studies did not find a clear difference in cosmetic or overall patient satisfaction.

Cohesin keeps active DNA regions from blending together in human cells

Researchers found that active parts of the human genome form condensed domains whose movement is constrained by cohesin, a protein complex that helps organize DNA. When cohesin was lost, nucleosomes became more mobile within the domains, allowing nearby regions to mix and weakening transcriptional insulation.
