Review finds mixed evidence for hyperbaric oxygen in muscle and bone problems

This systematic review examined 19 human clinical studies involving 612 patients who received hyperbaric oxygen therapy for selected muscle, ligament, tendon, and bone conditions. Results were mixed: randomized studies did not find a significant benefit for exercise-related muscle damage or delayed muscle soreness, while studies of avascular necrosis and bone marrow edema more consistently reported improvements. The review does not establish that hyperbaric oxygen works for all musculoskeletal conditions.
