Researchers made cement-based structural electrodes partly from industrial solid waste and added either graphene nanoplatelets or carbon nanotubes. Both additives greatly increased energy-storage capacity, but they also reduced compressive strength, creating a tradeoff between storing energy and supporting loads.
Researchers developed an AI-powered pipeline that extracts information about concrete materials from scientific papers and organizes it into a database. Applied to a corpus screened from more than 27,000 publications, the system produced nearly 9,000 records for an open database on blended cement concrete.
Concrete containing biochar made from faecal sludge remained dimensionally stable over 120 days and showed stronger mechanical performance at some replacement levels. The researchers also reported lower heavy-metal concentrations as biochar content increased, suggesting it may reduce the release of harmful substances.
