This systematic scoping review examined research on FASD and harmful sexual behaviours or sexual offences. Across 21 included articles, the literature reported links between FASD and these behaviours, but the review also found major gaps and does not establish that FASD causes them.
A review of 18 randomized controlled trials found that school-based programs improved knowledge and attitudes about sexual violence, especially consent and awareness. Evidence of behavior change was less consistent, and short follow-up periods limited conclusions about lasting effects.
A preschool program called CARE tested in northern and central Portugal was reported as acceptable and safe by children and educators. The study also found early improvements in children’s emotional recognition and in rejecting “secrecy” tied to abuse, with mixed results about disclosure.
