Researchers tested three kinds of support with 50 participants driving an 11-kilometre urban route in a battery electric vehicle: no tips, short general tips, or detailed tips that paired driving instructions with explanations of how the vehicle uses energy. The groups showed a steady improvement from no tips to short tips to the detailed guidance.
Drivers who received the detailed advice used the least energy. They also used the throttle more moderately and consistently, kept their speed more stable, and reported greater support for deciding how to drive efficiently and a larger increase in their ecodriving knowledge.
