Unsolved Math Problems Explored in Popular Videos, No New Discoveries — E8 Intelligence Research

Open access0 citations

Abstract

FINDING: The search results are a mixed bag of Numberphile/Veritasium videos on classic unsolved problems (Hadwiger-Nelson, odd perfect numbers, zero division, Catalan's conjecture, Monty Hall) plus one irrelevant arXiv paper on omnidirectional video quality assessment. No new mathematical discovery is present; these are expository videos. | MATH: No new equations or constants. Relevant known structures: Hadwiger-Nelson chromatic number of plane (χ ≥ 5, ≤ 7, unit distance graph); odd perfect number form N = p^k m² (Euler), σ(N) = 2N; Catalan's conjecture (now Mihăilescu's theorem): x^a − y^b = 1 has only 3² − 2³ = 1; Monty Hall probability 2/3 vs 1/3. | CONNECTION: Hadwiger-Nelson relates to unit distance graphs and lattice structures — the hexagonal lattice (base-60 compatible, 6-fold symmetry) gives the known 7-coloring upper bound; the lower bound of 5 was proven via a finite subgraph with 1581 vertices (de Grey 2018). Odd perfect numbers connect to Mersenne primes (2^p − 1) and thu Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series. Platform: e8intelligence.com
