The Role of Information Systems in Improving Business Performance and Managerial Decision-Making
Abstract
This research paper examines the critical role of information systems in enhancing organizational performance and improving the quality of managerial decision-making. As modern businesses operate in highly competitive environments, the effective collection, processing, storage, and distribution of information have become vital for operational efficiency and strategic planning. The study investigates the major types of information systems utilized across various business functions—such as accounting, marketing, human resources, and inventory control—and analyzes their direct contribution to optimizing resource allocation, cost control, and customer service. Adopting a qualitative, literature-based methodology, the research reviews established academic publications regarding information systems success and organizational value. The findings indicate that information systems serve as strategic organizational resources rather than mere technical tools, significantly boosting productivity and supporting structured problem-solving and alternative evaluation. However, the study also highlights potential challenges, including implementation costs, data quality issues, cybersecurity risks, and employee resistance to organizational change, emphasizing that technological benefits require robust managerial support and continuous training.
