Building Future Learning Ecosystems for Viksit Bharat @2047: A Context-Sensitive Model of Digital Education for Sustainable Development
Abstract
Building Future Learning Ecosystems for Viksit Bharat @2047: A Context-Sensitive Model of Digital Education for Sustainable Development Dr. Vikash Singh * The aspiration of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047 requires an education system capable of responding simultaneously to technological transformation, social diversity, economic restructuring, ecological challenges and changing patterns of work and citizenship. Digital education has emerged as an important component of this transformation, but the mere expansion of devices, platforms and connectivity cannot by itself produce meaningful educational change. The central challenge is therefore not simply how to digitise education, but how to construct learning ecosystems in which digital technologies remain accessible, culturally responsive, pedagogically meaningful, environmentally responsible and socially inclusive. This article develops a context-sensitive model of digital education for sustainable development in the context of Viksit Bharat @2047. Drawing upon the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR), Sustainable Development Goal 4, and international scholarship on technology and education, the paper argues that India’s digital education strategy needs to move beyond a technology-centred approach towards an ecosystem-oriented framework. The proposed model is organised around eight interconnected dimensions: contextual access, human-centred pedagogy, multilingual and culturally responsive learning, teacher capability, learner agency, digital ethics and data responsibility, sustainability, and continuous ecosystem governance. The article proposes that the educational contribution to Viksit Bharat should be understood not merely in terms of digital literacy or employability, but in terms of developing capable, ethical, creative, socially responsible and environmentally conscious citizens. The paper concludes that a future-ready Indian learning ecosystem must combine technological innovation with social sensitivity, local relevance and human relationships. Digital transformation will become genuinely developmental only when technology expands educational possibilities without reproducing existing inequalities. * Assistant Professor, Department of B.Ed., V.S.S.D.
