Abstract

Background: Mukhadushika is an Ayurvedic skin disorder characterized by the appearance of eruptions over the face, commonly correlated with acne vulgaris in contemporary medicine. It is frequently observed in young adults and may affect both physical appearance and quality of life. Ayurveda describes Mukhadushika in relation to vitiation of Kapha, Vata and Rakta, with involvement of the skin and associated tissues. Case Presentation: A 29-year-old patient presented with complaints of recurrent Mukhadushika (pimples) over the face for 2 years. There was no significant history of any major systemic illness. The patient was assessed clinically according to Ayurvedic principles and diagnosed as a case of Mukhadushika. Intervention: An Ayurvedic treatment protocol was administered for 8 weeks, consisting of Arogyavardhini Vati, Gandhaka Rasayana, Laghumanjishthadi Churna, Sariva–Manjishtha Phanta and Amlapittahara Yoga. The treatment was planned with the objective of reducing the manifestations of Mukhadushika, correcting the involved Dosha–Dushya factors and improving the condition of the skin. Outcome: Clinical assessment was carried out before and after the 8-week treatment period. The patient was evaluated for changes in the number and severity of facial eruptions, inflammatory lesions and overall skin condition. Conclusion: The present case highlights the potential role of a comprehensive Ayurvedic approach in the management of Mukhadushika. The observed clinical changes following 8 weeks of treatment provide a basis for further systematic studies evaluating Ayurvedic interventions in acne vulgaris.
