An energy-reserve joint dispatch strategy for large-scale adiabatic compressed air energy storage with parallel compression and constant/sliding-pressure expansion designs

Abstract

The spinning reserve burden of wind-intensive power system (WIPS) should not be underestimated. In this regard, benefiting from numerous advantages including rapid response, short mode transition time, narrow reserve deadzone, and significant reserve depth, large-scale adiabatic compressed air energy storage (A-CAES) with parallel compression and constant/sliding-pressure expansion designs is well-suited for providing reserve services. Hence, an energy-reserve joint dispatch (ERJD) strategy for A-CAES-integrated WIPS is proposed. First, the variable-parameter thermodynamic model of A-CAES is constructed, based on which its reserve regulation capability is theoretically analyzed. Second, with A-CAES and thermal power units (TPUs) serving as reserve sources, the dispatch model of WIPS is developed. Third, to address the computational challenges arising from both temporal-coupled and temporal-independent nonlinear constraints, a multi-temporal-feature iterative method (MTFIM) is designed. Finally, case studies are conducted. The results indicate that the dispatch strategy can effectively leverage the key roles of A-CAES in reserve provision, peak regulation, and wind power accommodation.
