Plantar Eczema Treated with Individualized Homeopathic Medicine: A Case Report
Abstract
Abstract Eczema is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease that affects children and adults, and is characterized by symptoms such as itching, redness, oozing of discharge, and scaly patches. It has a considerable socioeconomic burden with varying degree of severity leading to significant limitations in earning potential and absenteeism. It can affect an individual's daily activities and quality of life necessitating more research in this field. The case of a 21-year-old male patient suffering from painful eruptions on both soles causing itchiness, painful white and watery discharge, and bleeding due to scratching is presented. The patient was diagnosed with plantar eczema through clinical examination which was confirmed by a consultant dermatologist. Individualized homeopathic medicine Sulphur in LM potency was administered for based on the totality of symptoms after repertorization and in reference to Materia Medica. The treatment outcome for this case study was assessed using pictorial image–based evidence and the dermatology life quality index (DLQI) scale score every month. Using the modified Naranjo criteria for homeopathy—causal attribution inventory (MONARCH) tool, the causal attribution of the outcome to the treatment was assessed. Marked improvement was found clinically with DLQI score, showing significant reduction, This case study reveals a positive role of homeopathic treatment in plantar eczema without relapse and improvement in the general well-being of the patient.
