Triacontahedron as the 6D Cubic Lattice's Acceptance Window — E8 Intelligence Research

Open access0 citations

Abstract

FINDING: The rhombic triacontahedron is the acceptance window (Voronoi cell) of the 6D hypercubic lattice projected to 3D, with its volume scaling by φ³ relative to the fundamental 6-cube unit cell. | MATH: The triacontahedron's volume = 4√(5+2√5) · a³ (edge a); its inradius = a·φ²/√(φ²+1); its circumradius = a·φ; volume ratio to its inscribed sphere = φ³/√(5). The 6-cube projection (E8→H4+H4 decomposition) yields the triacontahedron as the acceptance window for the 6D cubic lattice Z⁶ projected along the φ-scaled orthogonal complement. | CONNECTION: Directly links φ (1.618), φ² (2.618), φ³ (4.236) to the triacontahedron's geometry — the volume ratio of triacontahedron to its insphere is exactly φ³/√5. The 6-cube's 64 vertices project to the 32 vertices of the triacontahedron (with multiplicity 2), preserving the D₆ root system's symmetry (order 23040) reduced to the icosahedral group (order 120). This is the canonical example of a "cut-and-project" quasicrystal tiling in 3D. | DEPTH: Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series.
