Material Intersectionality Through Travel Stories
0 citations
Abstract
The notion of intersectionality seeks to bring visibility to the law. However, of the many attempts to operationalize the concept, few have focused on the image’s potential to expand the metaphor. The article uses films on travel stories to observe the relationships composed with the expeditionaries, settlers, Indigenous people, state representatives, and documentarians who travel through them. The overall argument is that by exploring the filmic operations of framing, shot and montage in travel stories we can expand the metaphor of intersectionality in a way that is able to expose the violence of ongoing colonial legal imaginaries.
