Economic Systems: Objectives, Dynamics, and Institutional Design

Open access0 citations

Abstract

Economic activity is an evolving organization of households, enterprises, productive capabilities, financial commitments, institutional rules and expectations. We argue that an integrated economic framework should connect three questions: what conditions of human life should development improve, how markets and institutions build productive capabilities, and when public intervention can alleviate failures that decentralized adjustment can not adequately resolve. We distinguish distribution-sensitive human outcomes from nominal output measures, and trace a conditional developmental sequence from unmet needs to entrepreneurial discovery, investment, production, user feedback, competition, learning and renewed capacity. Real resources, effective demand, financing and the operative enforcement of rules condition every transition. Existing evolutionary, complexity, disequilibrium, stock–flow-consistent, institutional and welfare research provides the major mechanisms; this paper organizes their roles rather than claiming to discover universal dynamical laws. A limited producer-finance example demonstrates how a binding constraint can change through retained earnings or demand reallocation, while a productivity example separates feasible additional output from actual wages, lower prices or voluntary leisure. We distinguish financial fragility from income–expenditure contraction and formulate a state-sensitive governance process that tests market adjustment, institutional correction and temporary public support against costs, legitimate authority and recovery objectives. The result is a theoretical preprint foundation for later research on work, productivity and financial governance, not a validated predictive or policy-optimization system.
