Integrated Pest Management Approaches and Phytosanitary Protocols for Sustainable Horticulture
Abstract
Due to climate changes, the emergence of new pest distribution areas, development of pesticide resistance, and protection of plants for their international trade purposes, it is becoming more challenging to cultivate fruits and vegetables sustainably. One of the options for this is the application of an intelligent and smart approach termed as Integrated Pest Management IPM. It includes the use of natural enemies of pests, modification of plant management techniques, appropriate chemical applications, and development of plant strength for resisting pests. Further, the country level plant protection groups ensure plant safety and protection during trade and free from harmful pests. The present article highlights the application of IPM strategies in fruit and vegetable production as well as the protection of plants for their trade to assure global food security. With the application of IPM and adherence of international guidelines for plant safety, we can protect our crops and nature. It requires some effort. Our food security relies on it.
