BloomSpan: Memory-Efficient Maximal Frequent Substring Mining for Large-Scale Text

Open access0 citations

Abstract

BloomSpan is a memory-efficient algorithm for mining Maximal Contiguous Frequent Phrases (MCFPs) from large text corpora. MCFPs are strictly contiguous token sequences satisfying a minimum document-support threshold; unlike general Sequential Pattern Mining, no gaps are permitted. BloomSpan combines a Counting Bloom Filter for probabilistic frequency estimation with prioritized seed generation and depth-first expansion directly on the corpus, avoiding recursive projected databases. Seed generation is provably free of false negatives; output equivalence with exact baselines is confirmed on all Gutenberg-8k subsets where any baseline completes. On the Gutenberg-BookCorpus-Cleaned corpus (up to 3.07B tokens), BloomSpan achieves 11-15x faster wall-clock execution than FHK with up to 2x lower peak memory.
