Dual Band CPW‐Based Hexagonal Microstrip Antenna With Tooth‐Based Metamaterial for IoT Applications

0 citations

Abstract

ABSTRACT Microstrip patch antennas (MPAs) are majorly used in various Internet of things (IoT) applications because of their lightweight and flexibility with compact wireless devices. Existing antenna designs suffered from various issues like low gain, limited bandwidth, and poor impedance matching, which result in average performances in dual band based IoT applications. In order to resolve these issues, a novel tooth‐shaped metamaterial inspired patch antenna with T‐shaped defected ground structure (DGS) is designed for IoT applications. The developed antenna is designed with a hexagon‐shaped patch, coplanar waveguide feedline with metamaterial, and DGS component on Rogers RT Duroid 5880 substrate. The designed antenna resonated at 2.92 and 4.42 GHz with less than −30‐dB reflection coefficient at both frequencies. The effectiveness of the proposed antenna model is demonstrated by the strong agreement among simulated and measured results, which makes it practical and viable option for next generation IoT and sub‐6‐GHz wireless applications.
