Search Results Reveal Gap: No Direct Proof of Fu-Kane-Mele Z2 Invariant — E8 Intelligence Research

Open access0 citations

Abstract

FINDING: The search results are dominated by pedagogical videos on eigenvalue equations and parity, with only one direct reference to the Fu-Kane-Mele invariants (a lecture by De Nittis) — no actual proof or derivation of the Z2 invariant is retrieved. The core mathematical content is the eigenvalue equation and parity operator, not the topological invariant itself. | MATH: Eigenvalue equation: \( \hat{O} \psi = o \psi \); Parity operator: \( \hat{P} \psi(\mathbf{r}) = \psi(-\mathbf{r}) \), with eigenvalues \( \pm 1 \); For class AII (odd time-reversal symmetry), the Fu-Kane-Mele Z2 invariant is \( \nu = \frac{1}{2\pi i} \oint \mathrm{Tr}[\mathcal{A}] \, dk \) mod 2, where \( \mathcal{A} \) is the Berry connection, or equivalently \( (-1)^\nu = \prod_{i} \delta_i \) with \( \delta_i = \frac{\mathrm{Pf}[w(\Gamma_i)]}{\sqrt{\det[w(\Gamma_i)]}} \) at time-reversal invariant momenta \( \Gamma_i \). | CONNECTION: The parity eigenvalues \( \pm 1 \) map directly to the \( \mathbb{Z}_2 \) stru Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
