Indigenous soil stewardship as foundational agricultural science
0 citations
Abstract
Abstract Indigenous peoples have developed soil management practices over millennia which are anchored in relationships and survival. Western science often borrows these practices and claims them as their own concepts without proper acknowledgment. We seek recognition of Indigenous communities in the United States as the first stewards of the lands where soil science principles were formed. © 2026 Society of Chemical Industry.
