Nomadism of thought as a logic for inducing more open futurities in coaching inquiry
Abstract
Since its beginnings, coaching inquiry has been guided by disciplinary influences that have, as this paper argues, largely confined its doings to a dogmatic image of thought severely delimiting what is deemed possible, productive, and effective. As an affirmative response counterbalancing the canonising forces of dogma, the purpose of the present paper is to advance nomadism of thought as a logic for inducing more open futurities in coaching inquiry. Diffraction is offered as an affirmative methodology that can help open nomadic images of thought. A reimagining of the human subject is extended as an example of an intraventive move illustrating how nomadic thinking can help unmoor the study of sport coaching from its attachment to the bounded agentic epistemically self-reliant coach. The paper concludes with open yet cautious invitations to actualise coaching inquiries that operate through different logics.
